Steve Cohen Says Donald Trump is an Affront to People Murdered by the Ku Klux Klan and Other Racists

U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen (D-TN-09) this week compared U.S. Republican President Donald Trump’s alleged quid pro quo on Ukraine as an affront to civil rights workers, women’s suffrage, and people murdered by the Ku Klux Klan.

“President Trump’s subversive and illegal actions in seeking foreign interference are an effrontery to our Constitution and to free and fair elections. They are an affront to our Founders. They are an affront to the suffragists who fought for women’s voting rights,” Cohen said during this week’s U.S. House Judiciary Committee hearing on impeachment.

“They are an affront to the memory of Medgar Evers, a civil rights leader assassinated in Jackson, Mississippi. They are an affront to the memories of Andrew Goodman, James Chaney, and Michael Schwerner, civil rights workers murdered in Philadelphia, Mississippi during the Freedom Summer of 1964 while registering African Americans to vote.”

And Cohen then added more deceased people to his list.

“They are an affront to the memory of Viola Liuzzo, a mother of five, who was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan, while she was in Alabama to participate in the Selma-to-Montgomery March,” Cohen said.

“And they are an affront to the memory of the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr. who championed the Voting Rights Act of 1965. And they are an affront to every service member who has fought to defend our nation and our system of self-government, based upon free and fair elections. President Trump’s attempt to subvert our election was an attack on America.”

According to the website NoqReport.com, Cohen’s speech seemed bizarre.

“Most have heard of ‘word salad,’ a confused or unintelligible mixture of seemingly random words and phrases, specifically (in psychiatry) as a form of speech indicative of advanced schizophrenia,” according to the website.

“In the case of Representative Steve Cohen from Tennessee, it would seem he suffers from ‘issue salad’ in which he conflates seemingly random issues and historical events in his attacks on President Trump.”

Fool doesn’t know what he is talking about. Dr King wrote in his Autobiography that Illinois was more Racist than Alabama in 1969. KKK II of 1915 was centered in Indiana.

Cohen, when you & your Democrat colleagues make outrageous statements such as outlined in this article, you increase the probability of Trump winning in 2020 exponentially. Please don’t stop your rambling narratives.
    TRUMP 2020

No wonder the Dems are losing so bad on all fronts. These kind of comments are so lame I cannot believe anyone would utter them. And on top of that, the Democratic Party was the party of Jim Crow.

Cohen is a psycho nut case! He and his brotherJim Cooper both need to be replaced, Nancy’s boys!

I wouldn’t compare Jim Cooper to Steve Cohen. He’s a liberal and I disagree with him on almost every view he has, but he’s not a fanatical idiot like Cohen. That guy is an embarrassment to humanity.

  5. Laurie McCorkindale

I’ve heard some pretty absurd, unbalanced and off the rails, compost worthy crap said lately, but this drivel takes first prize. I’m so very grateful you do not represent me in DC.
If I could make a suggestion though. There is medication for your level of insanity. Perhaps you should explore those options…
